An encounter broke out Tuesday evening during a joint search operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Arahama area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
Officials said the operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area. During the search, troops noticed suspicious movement.
When challenged, the hiding terrorists opened fire, triggering a retaliatory response from the joint team.
In a post of X, the Army’s Chinar Corps said, “During the night of 31 Mar 26, the cordon was tactically reorganised amidst the intermittent firing underway. Own troops effectively retaliated with calibrated response resulting in one terrorist eliminated.”
Security forces cordoned off the area and deployed reinforcements to strengthen the security grid.
Officials said the operation was ongoing, and further details were awaited.
Authorities urged residents to remain indoors and avoid the area as the operation continued.
