Following the arrest of UML party Chairman KP Sharma Oli, cadres of the CPN-UML staged protests across the Kathmandu Valley. In protest against the arrest, affiliated mass organisations demonstrated by burning tyres outside the District Court in Babar Mahal. Several groups also launched a protest march from Maitighar Mandala.

As demonstrators attempted to move towards a restricted area, police intervened, leading to a brief scuffle and a tense situation.

While police dispersed the protesters, groups continued to move forward. The procession from Maitighar towards New Baneshwor reached Babar Mahal, where cadres blocked traffic by burning tyres and raised slogans against the government, demanding Oli’s immediate release. Heavy security deployment has been made in the Babar Mahal and Maitighar areas.
