RG Kar victim’s mother gets BJP candidature for West Bengal Assembly Elections

In West Bengal, ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Ratna Debnath, mother of the RG Kar victim, from the Panihati constituency in North 24 Parganas. Her candidature was announced as part of the BJP’s third list of 19 candidates.

The RG Kar Medical College case in August 2024 involved the brutal rape and murder of a junior doctor, sparking protests across the globe and demands for justice.

Meanwhile according to the list, Rathindra Nath Bose has been fielded from Coochbehar Dakshin assembly constituency, Dr. Sankar Guchhait will contest from Medinipur, and Biplab Mandal from Howrah Madhya assembly constituency.
