Khelo India Tribal Games: Karnataka, Odisha win first gold

Karnataka’s Dhoneesh N and Odisha’s Anjali Munda clinched the first gold medal for their states at the inaugural Khelo India Tribal Games 2026 in Chhattisgarh.

Dhoneesh and Anjali claimed gold medals in the men’s and women’s 200-meter freestyle swimming events, respectively. Karnataka dominated the pool, winning five of the six gold medals on offer.

After Day 1, Karnataka leads the medal tally with seven medals, followed by Odisha with four medals, while hosts Chhattisgarh are placed fourth with two medals.

A whopping 106 gold medals are on offer across archery, athletics, football, hockey, swimming, weightlifting, and wrestling, while traditional sports like Mallakhamb and Kabaddi will be demonstration sports.
