Information & Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today launched three major initiatives to strengthen India’s media, broadcasting, and digital sectors while promoting the creative economy. The programmes include the National AI Skilling Initiative, the MyWAVES citizen creator platform, and television sets with built-in satellite tuners and an advanced electronic programme guide (EPG) for DD Free Dish.

The National AI Skilling Initiative, in partnership with Google and YouTube through the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT), will train 15,000 participants from the media and creative sectors at no cost. The programme will provide foundational and advanced AI learning, including hands-on projects and training in animation, gaming, visual effects, and other creative media technologies.

MyWAVES, integrated with WAVES OTT, will enable citizens to create, upload, and share content in multiple formats and languages, supporting initiatives such as the Create in India Challenge. The platform aims to turn viewers into active content creators, building a vibrant digital ecosystem.

The rollout of TVs with in-built satellite tuners and advanced programme guides allows easy access to DD Free Dish channels without a set-top box, reducing costs and improving accessibility, particularly in remote areas. These initiatives together aim to equip creators, expand opportunities, and enhance access to public broadcasting across the country.
