Donald Trump has said the United States has made significant progress in its campaign against Iran, claiming its military capabilities and nuclear capacity have been substantially weakened.

In a social media post, Trump said the US was close to achieving its objectives and could begin winding down military operations. He added that Iran’s military had been severely degraded.

Trump, who had earlier ruled out a ceasefire, also said the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz should be secured by other countries that rely on it for energy supplies.
