Saudi Arabia said a drone struck the SAMREF refinery in the port city of Yanbu on Thursday. The Saudi Defence Ministry said damage assessment was underway.

Oil loadings at Yanbu’s Red Sea port were briefly disrupted. The port is currently the only export outlet for the world’s largest oil exporter after Iran effectively blocked tanker traffic leaving the Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz.

The strike followed drone attacks on two oil refineries in Kuwait. Overnight, Iranian attacks also struck natural gas facilities in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

Kuwait Petroleum Corporation said its Mina al-Ahmadi and Mina Abdullah refineries were targeted by drones on Thursday, resulting in fires at both sites.

The UAE shut its Habshan gas facilities after intercepting missiles earlier in the day. The Abu Dhabi Media Office said no injuries were reported.
