President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the three-day Global Conference on Women in Agri-Food Systems 2026 in New Delhi today.
Organised by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and partners, the conference, GCWAS–2026, bring together over 700 global stakeholders to discuss policies, innovations and strategies to strengthen women’s role in sustainable agri-food systems.
The conference has garnered widespread support, with more than 15 national and international bodies participating as co-organisers and knowledge partners, along with an equal number of sponsors.
Taking place during the UN-declared ‘International Year for Women Farmers’ in 2026, the conference theme, “Driving Progress, Attaining New Heights,” is aligned with the global focus on women farmers.
The primary goal of the conference is to deliberate on strengthening policy frameworks and ecosystems to mainstream gender participation and highlight the indispensable role of women in building sustainable and inclusive agri-food systems.
