The war between the United States-Israel with Iran has entered its 12th day, with U.S. and Israeli forces carrying out what officials described as the most intense strikes yet on Iranian targets.
Fresh Israeli attacks hit Beirut’s southern suburbs and southern Lebanon, following warnings from the Israeli army for civilians to evacuate. Lebanese authorities reported that nearly 760,000 people had been registered as displaced.
Israel’s Foreign Minister, Gideon Saar, said the conflict would continue until Israel and the U.S. determine it is time to cease hostilities, but emphasized that his country was not seeking an “endless war.”
Meanwhile, Iran accused Israel of killing four Iranian diplomats in a weekend strike on a seafront Beirut hotel, calling it a “terrorist attack.” The Israeli military had previously said it conducted a “precise strike targeting key commanders” in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force.
Iran has also refused U.S. demands regarding its leadership, naming hardliner Mojtaba Khamenei as supreme leader to replace his father, who was killed on the first day of the war.
The speaker of Iran’s parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, stated on social media that Iran is not seeking a ceasefire and insisted that the United States and Israel must be “taught a lesson that will deter them from attacking Iran again.”
The Pentagon reported that about 140 U.S. military personnel have been wounded in attacks during the conflict, in addition to the seven U.S. service members who were killed early in the war.
