This was announced by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio yesterday during his concluding remarks on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address.

Rio said the proposed legislation will incorporate the provisions of the Memorandum of Agreement signed following discussions with the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO), while adhering to the mutually agreed basic principles.

The State will also consult the Ministry of Home Affairs before tabling the Bill in the House, Rio added.

He expressed hope that the Bill could be presented and passed within the current session.

He said, that the Government is actively working on constituting an Interim Council for the FNTA in consultation with ENPO and the tribal bodies of Eastern Nagaland.

The Chief Minister also conveyed gratitude to the Government of India for its guidance and support leading to the signing of the historic agreement.

Congratulating ENPO for concluding the agreement, he said the State Government looks forward to its continued cooperation in taking the process forward.

Calling for collective responsibility, Chief Minister Rio urged all concerned to perform their duties to ensure the successful passage of the proposed legislation.
