British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the United Kingdom has granted the United States permission to use British bases for specific defensive strikes against Iranian missiles, while making clear that the UK will not directly participate in any military action.

In a video message posted on social media, Starmer said the US had requested access to British bases for a “specific and limited defensive purpose,” and that the UK government had decided to accept the request.

He stressed that the decision for Britain not to be directly involved in strikes on Iran was deliberate.

The British Prime Minister believes the best way forward for the region and the wider world is a negotiated settlement, under which Iran would agree to give up any aspirations to develop a nuclear weapon.
