Janaushadhi Saptah 2026, an initiative to create awareness about affordable and quality generic medicines, commenced today with Health Check-Up camps across the country. The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers said the week-long celebrations will lead up to the 8th Janaushadhi Diwas.
It added that as part of the programme, health check-up camps are being organized by the Department of Pharmaceuticals till 5th of this month at more than 250 locations nationwide.
On the first day of the programme, health camps were conducted at about 50 locations across the country. Â The camps provided general health check-ups, and other services including free blood tests, Blood Pressure and thyroid tests.
The camps also carried out free distribution of Janaushadhi medicines. Additional services like physiotherapy consultation, eye check-ups and child health initiatives were also organized at several centres.
The Ministry highlighted that a large number of the general public received free medical consultation and medicines in these camps. It added that special focus was given to women and senior citizens.
The Camps witnessed active participation from several dignitaries, including Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assemblies, Senior Medical professionals and local representatives.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), over 18 thousand Jan Aushadhi Kendras are operating across the country.
The Ministry further said that the ongoing efforts under PMBJP are playing a vital role in strengthening India’s healthcare system by ensuring access to quality medicines at affordable prices for everyone.
The Government has further set an ambitious target of expanding this network to 25 thousand Kendras by 2027, strengthening last-mile access to affordable and quality medicines.
