The outbreak of conflict between Israel and the United States against Iran, triggered by joint US-Israeli strikes across Iran, has drawn frantic calls for calm as deep consternation spreads across the globe.

UN chief Antonio Guterres has warned that military action in West Asia risks triggering uncontrollable consequences in the region.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney underscored his support for U.S. efforts to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon but noted that Ottawa was not involved in the military planning.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that Iran should refrain from further strikes, give up its weapons programmes and cease the appalling violence and repression against the Iranian people.

French President Emmanuel Macron said the outbreak of war between the United States, Israel and Iran has “serious consequences” for international peace and security.

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry said that the cause of the current events is precisely the violence and impunity of the Iranian regime, in particular the killings and repression of peaceful protesters, which have become particularly widespread in recent months.
