US President Donald Trump on Saturday confirmed that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been killed in air strikes. Trump celebrated the U.S.-Israeli airstrikes that he said eliminated Iran’s leader, while warning that attacks would continue.
The strikes, which he said were aimed at destroying Iranian missiles and annihilating its navy, followed repeated U.S.-Israeli warnings that further action would be taken if Iran pressed ahead with its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes.
In a post, President Trump described Khamenei as “one of the most evil people in history.”
Calling the development a turning point for Iran and the wider West Asia region, he said the strike was made possible through US intelligence capabilities and coordination with Israel.
President Trump also vowed that there would be no let-up in the strikes until the fall of the Islamic republic, urging security forces to stand down.
