Congress General Secretary and Member of Parliament Priyanka Gandhi Vadra today expressed concern over the growing atmosphere of anger and hatred in the country. Speaking to reporters in Wayanad, Vadra underlined the importance of freedom of expression. She stated that people must be allowed to express themselves freely.
However, she observed that the present environment is increasingly marked by divisive rhetoric, anger and hatred. In such a situation, she emphasised that creative expression should promote happiness, peace, love and social welfare, rather than deepen divisions.
Responding to a question on Kerala’s secular ethos and social environment, Ms Vadra said she is a great admirer of the people of the state.
She noted that her experience as MP from Wayanad has given her a deeper understanding of the state’s unique social fabric. She highlighted how communities in Wayanad live in harmony, celebrate festivals together and support one another in times of difficulty.
Recalling the solidarity displayed during the landslide tragedy, she said that religion and caste distinctions became irrelevant as people united to help those affected. She added that such cooperation continues even today.
Describing this collective spirit as the true essence of India, the Congress General Secretary said Kerala’s example of communal harmony and mutual support should be showcased across the country. She asserted that the nation can draw valuable lessons from Kerala’s model of coexistence and unity.
Vadra earlier inaugurated the Cooperative Laboratory of the Kalikavu Service Cooperative Bank at Kalikavu. She also inaugurated the Silver Jubilee celebrations of MES Fathima Rahim Central School and laid the foundation stone for the school’s Montessori Block at Kaithapoyil in Thiruvambady. She also paid a visit to the potters’ village in Nilambur.
