Twenty-four-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic returned to a Grand Slam final after defeating Jannik Sinner 3-6 6-3 4-6 6-4 6-4 in the Australian Open 2026 semi-final on Friday.

Djokovic edged past the Italian in a gripping five-setter at his favourite venue, Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. The win marked Djokovic’s first victory over the two-time defending champion after having lost five consecutive matches against Sinner.

With 24 Grand Slam titles to his name, Djokovic will now aim to claim a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title and an 11th Australian Open crown when he faces Carlos Alcaraz in the final on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, Alcaraz beat Alexnder Zverev of Germany in a thriller with 6-4 7-6 6-7 6-7 7-5 in the semi-final.

Djokovic has also become the oldest player to reach the Australian Open men’s singles final in the Open Era, while Alcaraz is the youngest player to reach finals at all four Grand Slams in the same era.
