Sunita Williams has retired, concluding a remarkable 27-year career in NASA, during which she completed three missions aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and set multiple human spaceflight records.
The 60-year-old, currently visiting India, participated in an interactive session on Tuesday afternoon at the American Centre.
Williams also delivered a talk titled “The Making of an Astronaut Sunita Williams’ Story” at IIT Delhi on 20 January, 2026.
Williams spent over eight months aboard the ISS and returned to Earth in March 2025 aboard SpaceX with her crewmate Butch Wilmore.
A former Navy captain, Williams logged 608 days in space across three missions and holds the record for the most spacewalking time by a woman—62 hours over nine excursions.
