On President Donald Trump’s tariffs, the U.S. Supreme Court is preparing to issue a significant ruling.

The justices are reviewing whether the Trump administration had the legal authority to impose the tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.

Another key question is whether importers must be refunded for duties already paid if the court finds the tariffs were unlawful.

The court has several paths it could take. It could restrict the use of emergency powers under the law and order only partial repayment of tariffs.

Even if the Trump administration loses, it may still pursue other legal avenues to impose tariffs without relying on emergency powers.

The ruling could have far-reaching effects on U.S. trade policy and the country’s fiscal situation.
