Russian forces launched a massive overnight attack on Ukraine on Friday, firing a rare Oresh-nik hypersonic ballistic missile at a gas facility near Lviv and bombarding Kyiv with drones and missiles. Four people died in the capital, including a medic, and 24 others were injured as apartment blocks sustained damage.

Half of Kyiv’s buildings lost heating amid extremely cold temperatures, prompting Mayor Vitali Klitschko to urge residents who can leave temporarily to do so.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for a strong international response, particularly from the U.S., after Moscow rejected Western peacekeeping proposals.

Germany condemned Russia’s use of a powerful hypersonic missile in the strongest terms and reaffirmed its commitment to fully support Kyiv.
