India is leading contributor to UN peacekeeping operations: MEA

Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs, Sibi George, discussed UN peacekeeping operations with Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Information System and Training) Lt General Vipul Shinghal.

In a social media post, the Ministry of External Affairs said that India is a leading contributor to UN peacekeeping operations, deploying significant numbers of military and police personnel globally.

UN peacekeepers provide security and the political and peacebuilding support to help countries make the difficult, early transition from conflict to peace.

UN Peacekeeping is guided by three basic principles, they ar:

  • Consent of the parties;
  • Impartiality;
  • Non-use of force except in self-defence and defence of the mandate.
