Kerala MLA and former Minister Antony Raju will lose his membership in the Legislative Assembly following his conviction in an evidence-tampering case. The Assembly Secretariat will issue a formal notification once a copy of the court order is received.

The Nedumangad Judicial First Class Court yesterday sentenced Antony Raju to three years of imprisonment. He will also be barred from contesting elections for the next six years.

However, the court has granted him bail until the disposal of his appeal, as the sentence is less than seven years.

The case relates to an incident that occurred 34 years ago, in which Antony Raju was found guilty of tampering with evidence to help an Australian citizen arrested at the Thiruvananthapuram international airport with 60 grams of hashish.
