India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar on Friday said that India will exercise its right to defend itself from terrorism and that no one can dictate how the country conducts its defence.
Speaking at the inauguration of ‘Shaastra 202’, the IIT Madras techno-entertainment fest in Chennai, Jaishankar said, “India will do whatever is required to protect itself, especially when faced with hostile neighbours that continue to support terrorism.” He stressed that if a country decides to persist with terrorism, India has the right to defend itself, and nobody can tell it what to do.
Dr Jaishankar said it is important for India to explain to the West that there was a period of distortion, adding that India’s decision to adopt a democratic model was its own choice.
