Railways’ journey toward achieving world-class infrastructure marks a significant milestone this year. After expanding the luxury of a comfortable travel to non-AC passengers through Amrit Bharat trains, Indian Railways is all set to soon operationalise first Vande Bharat Sleeper for AC class travellers.

The long awaited public centric initiative will truly redefine the train travel for long distances, drastically cutting short travel time, first on busy routes and thereafter with time on all the routes.

Redeveloped Stations across India are offering airport-like facilities to passengers like modern & wider entrances, upgraded toilets, escalators, lifts, food courts & state of the art waiting halls etc.

Train Services

Vande Bharat Train:

# 164  Vande Bharat train services running

# 15 Vande Bharat Express train new launches in 2025

# Sleeper coaches coming soon to revolutionize night journeys

Amrit Bharat Train:

# Premium non-AC travel with 12 sleeper and 8 general coaches

# 13 New trains launched in 2025, bringing the total to 30, providing high-quality services

Namo Bharat Rapid Rail:

# Transforming short-distance high-frequency regional travel

# Two operational routes (Bhuj–Ahmedabad and Jaynagar–Patna)

Special Train Services:

# Record 43,000+ special trips in 2025

# Major services included 17,340 for Maha Kumbh, 12,417 for Summer, and 12,383 for Chhath Puja

# An additional 1,144 trips were run for Holi

Rail Track Infrastructure

Between 1 April and 30 November 2025, Indian Railways commissioned over 900 kilometres of new track lines, Adding to it Indian Railways achieved significant infrastructure upgrades by completing 7,051 km of full track renewal, including 6,880 km of rail replacement and the renewal of 9,277 turnout sets.

Rail Modernisation

To achieve the Goal of Faster, safer, and more efficient operations using advanced machinery, Sectional speed has been increased to 130 kmph speed across 599 km of the Golden Quadrilateral, Diagonal, and B routes.

Further, speeds of 110 kmph have been achieved over 4,069 track km.

Electrification

# 99.2% Electrification: Nearly the entire Broad Gauge network is now electrified

# Global Leader: Achievement exceeds the UK (39%), Russia (52%), and China (82%)

# 100% Electrified: Milestone reached across 14 Railway Zones and 25 States/UTs

Construction & Manufacruring

Railways completed construction of 1,161 Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs) in 2025.

In FY 2025-26, more than 4,224 LHB coaches (ICF Chennai: 1,659; MCF Raebareli: 1,234; and RCF Kapurthala: 1,331) were produced.

Landmark Projects

The Landmark projects were completed or inaugurated across the country are:

First vertical-lift rail bridge:

The New Pamban Bridge, spanning a total length of 2.08 kilometres, connects Rameswaram to the Indian mainland was inaugurated on 6 April 2025. Blending heritage with modern design, the speciality of the bridge is a portion of 72.5 m central span can be lifted 17 m to let ships pass through when required.

Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link:

The All-Weather Rail Connectivity is a 272 km project through the Himalayas, was completed and dedicated in 2025. It comprises 36 major tunnels and 943 bridges, reflecting exceptional engineering in one of the most challenging terrains in the world.

The project features iconic engineering landmarks, including the world’s highest railway arch bridge ‘Chenab Bridge’, a 1,315 m steel arch over the Chenab River (359 m high), India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge (deck 331 m above the river) and India’s longest operational railway tunnel ‘T-50’.

North East Rail Link:

Aizawl now is placed on India’s rail map for the first time, with the 51 km Bairabi–Sairang broad-gauge line in Mizoram was inaugurated in September 2025.

Linking Mizoram directly with Delhi, Guwahati and Kolkata, the Sairang–Delhi Rajdhani Express passing through the rugged hills offers a scenic journey, making the travel ecstatic.

The line includes 45 tunnels, 55 major bridges and 88 minor bridges.

High Speed Rail Project:

Government of India has sanctioned 508 km Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) Project in December, 2015 which is under execution with technical and financial co-operation from Government of Japan.

Th MAHSR project is on full swing and you can have a high speed train journey in the near future. India is set to join an elite group of nations—including China, Japan, France, and Germany—in the high-speed rail sector.
