Heavy rain triggered flash floods and mudflows across southern California, disrupting life during the Christmas period.
Torrential rain caused widespread flash flooding, with rivers swelling and mud and debris covering roads. Authorities warned people to avoid travel and urged residents in flood-prone areas to evacuate or shelter in place.
In San Bernardino County, residents were rescued by helicopter after floodwaters stranded them on rooftops. The U.S. National Weather Service said the storm was expected to continue, creating dangerous conditions.
