Fishing is far more than just a quiet hobby; it is a “holistic” activity that offers significant rewards for your physical health, mental clarity, and social life.

Perhaps the most profound benefit of fishing is its impact on the mind. It is often referred to as a form of “ecotherapy.”

Being near water (often called “Blue Space”) naturally lowers cortisol levels and blood pressure. The rhythmic nature of casting and the sound of water provide a meditative effect.

A fishing competition was organised on Saturday at Hahim along the Assam–Meghalaya border in Kamrup district.

Around 200 participants from various communities, including Khasi, Garo, Rabha and Bodo, took part in the event.

The competition has been organised for the past 14 years to promote peace and harmony in the border region.

In a world of digital distractions, fishing requires “soft fascination”—a type of focus that restores your brain’s ability to concentrate and reduces mental fatigue.

Fishing teaches you to handle “failure” (not catching anything) with grace and rewards persistence, which builds emotional resilience.

Keeping in mind these benefits, many organizations now use fishing to help veterans and survivors manage PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
