Indian Engineers Begin Lanka Bridge Repair

Indian Army Field Engineers who arrived in Colombo on Wednesday along with the 50 tonne Bailey Bridge, have commenced restoring a bridge affected by Cyclone Ditwah on the road connecting Chilaw and Puttalam.

The engineers’ team from India arrived on Wednesday night in the C17 Globemaster aircraft and completed their unloading on Thursday morning. After initial assessment of the situation, the team is expected to start working at the earliest.

Another India Air Force C-17 Globemaster plane has arrived in Sri Lanka with Bailey Bridge parts. These bridges can be built quickly to reconnect important roads.

A 25-member expert team including engineers to fix the bridges and medical staff for the field hospital also arrived, showing India’s strong support for in this difficult time.
