India’s aviation regulator has launched a probe into IndiGo’s severe disruption, following days of delays and cancellations blamed on pilot shortages and stricter duty norms.
India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) initiated an investigation on Wednesday into the extensive operational breakdown at IndiGo, which saw hundreds of flights disrupted nationwide.
The carrier faced more than 200 cancellations in a single day and delays reaching up to 10 hours at major airports, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
In November alone, the airline cancelled 1,232 flights, with almost 62 percent linked to crew shortages. The situation worsened after stronger fatigue-control rules for pilots took effect.
IndiGo has now announced calibrated flight cuts while the DGCA continues oversight to ensure passenger hardship is reduced and service reliability restored.
