Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that fake news is a threat to democracy. He stressed on the need to take strict action on social media, fake news and AI-generated deep fakes. Replying to supplementaries during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha today, Vaishnaw said, a new draft rule has been published to identify and take action against AI-generated deep fakes.

He said the Government as well as the Press Council of India, have been actively looking at the complaints which come against any TV channel or newspaper. Vaishnaw said, Fake news or fake narrative must be actively countered. He added that this is the responsibility of the Central Government as well as the State government and the civil society, to collectively work towards making sure that trust in the society is maintained and further strengthened.

Minister Vaishnaw said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought a new revolution to the country through Digital India, and the nation is witnessing its positive effects. He said the Government has enacted a very strict law to regulate online money gaming, which is benefiting crores of families across the country.
