The Indian men’s hockey team thrashed Canada 14–3 in their final league match of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh, Malaysia, securing a place in the tournament’s final.
India delivered a dominant performance, showcasing relentless attacking hockey throughout the match. Defender Jugraj Singh led the scoring with four goals, while Abhishek, Amit Rohidas, and Rajinder Singh struck twice each. Selvam Karthi, Nilakanta Sharma, Sanjay, and Dilpreet Singh added one goal apiece.
Canada managed to pull back three goals, but India’s firepower proved overwhelming. Returning to the tournament after six years, India became the first team to qualify for Sunday’s final. The six-team round-robin tournament will see the top two teams compete in the summit clash.
India and Belgium will meet tomorrow in the final. Belgium have not lost a match, drew with Canada. On the other hand India had lost to strong Belgium side in their second encounter of the tournament.
