The University of Jammu opened its medal tally at the Khelo India University Games 2025 in Rajasthan with an impressive performance in fencing, securing one Gold and one Bronze medal in individual events.
In the Epee Individual event, Shivansh Kapoor claimed the Bronze Medal after putting up a spirited performance. He narrowly lost in the semi-final to Sufiyan of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, with a close scoreline of 13–15.
In another highlight, Harshit Kohli delivered a stellar performance by clinching the Gold Medal in the Sabre Individual event.
He defeated defending champion Abhay Shinde of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Marathwada University, Maharashtra, in the final with a score of 15–12, bringing top honours to the University of Jammu.
Congratulating the medalists and the entire fencing team, Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, applauded their exceptional effort and dedication.
He also appreciated the crucial role played by Coach Ajay Kumar and University Contingent Manager Vikas Karlopia, whose guidance and planning were instrumental in the team’s success.
Dr. Daud further extended gratitude to Rashid Ahmed Chowdhary, Ujwal Gupta, Bhisham Singh, and Padam Dev Singh for their collective coaching support and contribution toward this achievement.
The performances have set a strong tone for the University of Jammu’s campaign at the national-level tournament.
