India’s hope is alive as Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi at the FIDE World Cup 2025 in Goa, holding Chinese star Way Yee to a confident 31-move draw in their quarter-final opener.

The Indian prodigy showed superb preparation in the Ruy Lopez Closed system, maintaining a time edge throughout and simplifying into a drawn rook-and-pawn ending.

With the white pieces in Game 2, he now has a golden chance to press for victory and move closer to the Viswanathan Anand Cup final and a Candidates 2026 berth.
