The U.S. Southern Command has released images of the Gerald R. Ford carrier strike group operating in the western Atlantic Ocean. The deployment, ordered by President Donald Trump last month, adds to warships, a nuclear submarine and F-35 aircraft already positioned in the Caribbean.

Commissioned in 2017, the Ford is the U.S. Navy’s newest and largest aircraft carrier, carrying more than 5,000 sailors. The Pentagon confirmed its arrival, stating the mission is intended to disrupt drug trafficking and dismantle transnational criminal networks.

Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro claims the U.S. buildup is meant to remove him from power, warning of mass armed resistance if intervention occurs. Venezuela is preparing decades-old Russian-made weapons and planning guerrilla-style tactics in anticipation of any U.S. attack.
