The 556th Parkash Gurpurab of the founder of Sikhism, Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, is being celebrated today across the Nation and abroad with religious fervour.
In Punjab, besides other Gurudwaras, Sri Harimandir Sahib Golden Temple in Amritsar is beautifully decorated with flowers and devotees are paying obeisance after taking a holy dip in the Sarovar.
Langars are being served amidst the recitation of Gurbani. The sacred items related to the first Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, will be displayed for the devotees at Sri Harimandir Sahib, Sri Akal Takhat Sahib and Gurudwara Baba Atal Rai from 9 AM to 12 noon, today.
In the evening, after the recitation from the holy scriptures, Deepmala and pollution-free fireworks will be displayed. Earlier, a jatha of Sikh devotees crossed over to Pakistan from the Attari border in Amritsar, yesterday, to pay obeisance at the birthplace of Guru Nanak Ji, Sri Nankana Sahib. The Head Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib, Giani Raghbir Singh, has congratulated the devotees on this holy day.
Born to father, Mehta Kalu and Mata Tripta in Rai Bhoi Ki Talwandi, now known as Nankana Sahib in Lahore, on the full moon day of Kartik month in 1469, he was a great spiritual teacher who dedicated his life to teaching people about the oneness of God and the importance of living an honest, kind, and helpful life. His teachings went against the social problems of his time, like the caste system, and emphasized that all human beings are equal.
