U.S. President Donald Trump has said Washington stands ready to support Jamaica following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.
The powerful storm tore through the island on Tuesday before making landfall in Cuba early Wednesday. Melissa has since weakened to a Category 3 system but continues to pose danger after lashing Jamaica’s southwestern coast with sustained winds of up to 185 miles per hour.
Relief and recovery operations are underway as authorities assess the full extent of the damage across affected regions.
