India Womens Cricket team created history to beat Australia W by five wickets in a thriller in the Semi-final of World Cup ODI at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai tonight. India through to the final to play South Africa.
It was a record chase by any team in women’s ODI cricket. Earlier Australia chased down target of 331 set by India in Visakhapatnam.
Chasing a massive target of 339 India finished the line courtesy a magnificent century by Jemimah Rodrigues who remained unbeaten 127 from 134 balls. The winning run came from the bat of Amanjot Kaur in form a boundary. The whole team and the spectators were ecstatic after the winning four.
Australia won the toss in the rain interrupted match and elected to bat. After the first wicket of Captain Alyssa Healy, for the second wicket Phoebe Litchfield and Ellyse Perry put 155 runs. Both the Batters were aggressive to score with an average of 6.5 per over.
Litchfield scored 119 runs in just 93 deliveries with 3 sixes. Ellyse Perry Ashleigh Gardner scored half century each.
For India Nallapureddy Charani and Deepti Sharma got 2 wickets each. Australia once seemed to touch the 400 runs bowled out in 49.5 overs.
India started badly with both openers were unable to score big runs. With India 59/2 Captain Harmanpreet Kaur joined Rodrigues and both steadied the innings with with caution. Harmanpreet when started to get going, she got out on 89 off 88 balls. But for the 3rd wicket they put brave 167 runs. Richa Ghosh came played a little cameo to score fast. On course she got 26 runs off 16 balls with 2 sixes and 2 fours.
India always there needing almost seven to eight runs per over in the last 10, which they achieved with 9 balls remaining.
This is India’s third final in Women’s ODI World Cup Cricket. Earlier they lost to Australia in 2005 and to England in 2017.
