Priteesmita Bhoi lifts record 92kg, bags gold medal

India’s Priteesmita Bhoi has set a new weightlifting record by successfully lifting 92 kg in the clean and jerk event at the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain.

The record earned her a gold medal in the girls’ 44-kg category in Manama city. The 16-year-old Indian also clinched silver in the snatch section with a 66-kg lift to finish with two medals.

Bhoi’s gold medal was India’s third at the Games and the first by an individual. The other two gold medals for India were won by the men’s and women’s kabaddi teams.

India’s overall tally has risen to 24, including three gold, 10 silver, and 11 bronze.
