US President Donald Trump imposed an additional 10 per cent tariff on Canadian goods in response to a Canadian advertisement featuring the late US President Ronald Reagan.

President Trump shared the announcement in a Truth Social post, referencing the ad and calling it a “fraud.” He criticized Canadian officials for not removing the advertisement ahead of the World Series baseball championship.

Donald Trump stated, “Because of their serious misrepresentation of the facts, and hostile act, I am increasing the Tariff on Canada by 10% over and above what they are paying now.”

The post was made while President Trump was aboard Air Force One en route to Malaysia, the first stop on his East Asia trip, which will largely focus on trade issues.

This announcement follows President Trump’s statement two days earlier that he had terminated all trade talks with Canada over what he described as the “fake” ad campaign.
