Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh distributed free laptops to top-performing female students from his constituency, recognizing their academic excellence and dedication on the ocassion of Diwali.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Singh said the Modi government has introduced numerous schemes dedicated to women’s empowerment and education, and described laptops as the “ideal Diwali gift” for meritorious girl students.
He highlighted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership over the past 11 years, education opportunities for women have expanded significantly. “In Civil Services Exams, female students have consistently emerged as toppers. In 2014, 15–16 female students were among the toppers, and last year, two of the top three IAS rankers were women. Today, girls from places like Kishtwar and Rajouri are becoming IAS officers,” he said.
Dr. Singh credited this success to the ‘democratisation of opportunities and information’, made possible through digital access. “Students no longer need expensive coaching; everything is available on laptops and mobiles,” he added.
The Minister also underscored the impact of the National Education Policy (NEP) in simplifying the education process and promoting inclusivity.
Citing achievements under various government initiatives, Dr. Singh noted that India now has over 1.75 lakh start-ups, compared to 400 in 2014, with over 50,000 being women-led. He also mentioned that 68% of loans under the Mudra scheme have been availed by women, and praised women’s leadership in space missions like Aditya and Chandrayaan-3.
He further added, “This is the same government that extended maternity leave to six months and introduced mid-career schemes for women. There is an aspirational surge among youth, especially women, and this initiative is a small contribution to their journey toward success.”
