In a historic milestone for sustainable agriculture, honey from the buckwheat crop has been extracted for the first time at the School of Agricultural Science and Technology, Kargil Campus, University of Ladakh.
The high-altitude climate and floral diversity of Kargil have given this honey a unique aroma and taste, highlighting the region’s immense potential for premium honey production.
The Buckwheat crop was sown on 22 July 2025, and bee colonies were introduced on August 24 from SKUAST Kashmir. After about one and a half months, honey was extracted on 4 October 2025. It marks the first-ever Buckwheat honey extraction in Ladakh.
