U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to agree to an immediate ceasefire with Russia, even at current battle lines, during a cordial two-hour meeting at the White House. The talks come ahead of Trump’s planned summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest.

While Zelenskyy pressed for long-range Tomahawk missiles to target Russian supply lines, Trump emphasized diplomacy over escalation. “Let both sides stop the killing and claim victory—let history decide,” Trump later wrote on Truth Social, adding: “Enough blood has been shed.”

The U.S. President did not rule out supplying the requested missiles, but appeared cool to the idea as he looks to re-engage with Putin—an effort that has previously frustrated Kyiv and European capitals.

Zelenskyy described the meeting as “productive,” highlighting discussions on security guarantees and joint arms production. He later confirmed a “positive” call with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Finnish President Alexander Stubb, who reaffirmed support for Ukraine’s defense and potential ceasefire terms.

Trump’s upcoming meeting with Putin in Budapest is expected to focus on broader regional stability, though both leaders have clashed publicly and are expected to hold separate press briefings.
