The Commonwealth Sport Executive Board said that the Indian city of Ahmedabad has been recommended as the host city for the 2030 Games.
The board said it will propose Ahmedabad, in the western state of Gujarat, to the full Commonwealth Sport membership for approval at the General Assembly in Glasgow on November 26.
Ahmedabad has been chosen ahead of Abuja, Nigeria, by the Commonwealth Sport evaluation commission.
The 2030 Games are set to commemorate 100 years since the inaugural event was held in Hamilton city of Canada.
India last hosted the Games in 2010 in Delhi.
Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday in a social media post, “a huge moment for Indian sports” after Ahmedabad was recommended by the executive board of Commonwealth Sport as the host city for the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games.
The recommendation shall be now placed to the General Assembly of Commonwealth Sport to be held on November 26, 2025.
