Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum visited the flood-affected oil town of Poza Rica and spoke with residents impacted by the devastating floods.
At least 47 people have died since Thursday as flooding caused widespread destruction in the hardest-hit states of Hidalgo, Puebla, Querétaro, and Veracruz.
Sheinbaum discussed ongoing rehabilitation efforts and announced that air bridges have begun delivering food and drinking water to affected areas.
The disaster zone includes the Sierra Madre Oriental mountain range along Mexico’s east coast, where many villages remain without telecommunications and other essential services.
Approximately 100 small communities remain unreachable due to road closures and power outages, which have hindered phone services and travel.
Mexico has experienced exceptionally heavy rains throughout 2025, with a rainfall record set recently in the capital, Mexico City.
