Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) continues to remain closed for vehicular movement today for the 7th consecutive day due to ongoing restoration work at several blocked stretches.

The restoration work on the highway is in progress and the authorities have appealed to the public not to undertake any journey on the highway until it is fully restored.

The highway is still closed for vehicular movement from Jakheni in Udhampur towards Srinagar and vice versa due to a road blockage between Jakheni and Bali Nallah.

No vehicular movement is allowed from Nagrota Jammu towards Chenani, Patnitop, Doda, Ramban, Banihal, Srinagar, and vice versa.

Meanwhile, the traffic is plying smoothly on the historic Mughal Road, connecting the twin border district of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu division with the Shopian district of Kashmir valley.

The Traffic Police Department has urged commuters not to pay heed to any rumours and instead check the latest updates through the official Twitter handle, Facebook page, and Traffic Control Units before planning travel.

The Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said that teams of the National Highways Authority of India are working round the clock to clear the blockade on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Thard and Bali Nallah in Udhampur district.

He said that the weather conditions have remained clear, which is helping restoration efforts and hopefully, by late evening, it may be possible to start allowing traffic movement on the highway.

Meanwhile, with road connectivity beyond Udhampur disrupted, the administration has put in place special measures to maintain the supply of essential commodities.

A newly introduced passenger train from Katra to Ramban Sangaldan is being used to ferry essential goods, which are then transported by road to Doda, Kishtwar, and other areas.
