Adi Vaani, an Al based translation tool was launched by DurgadasUikey, Minister of State, Ministry of Tribal Affairs to day at Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi. Adi Vaani can translation both text and speech between Hindi/English and tribal languages, and vice versa.
The large language model is a pioneering initiative of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, utilizing Artificial Intelligence to protect, promote, and revitalize tribal languages and cultures of India through advanced translation technologies and community-driven approaches.
Adi Vaani is developed by a national consortium comprising IIT Delhi, BITS Pilani, IIIT Hyderabad, and IIT Nava Raipur, in collaboration with Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) from Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Meghalaya.
The tribal languages available on the app and web portal are Santali, Bhili, Mundari, and Gondi. Later Kui and Garo language will also be added.
Addressing the gathering MoS Durgadas Uikey said the tool will benefit for the preservation of tribal language and the tribal culture both. It’s a milestone achievement in the context of educational, cultural, and civic participation for tribal communities. He congratulated the team behind the making of Adi Vaani.
