Reigning men’s champion Jannik Sinner from Italy stormed into the third round of the U.S. Open, extending his Grand Slam hard court winning streak to 23 matches. The Italian top seed defeated Australia’s Alexei Popyrin in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2, as he eyes becoming the first man since Roger Federer (2004–2008) to reclaim the U.S. Open title.
In the women’s singles, top title contender Iga Swiatek from Poland had a tougher match. The world number two overcame a spirited challenge from the Netherlands’ Suzan Lamens, winning 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
