Landslides in Udhampur blocks Jammu–Srinagar Highway for Fourth Day

Due to bad weather, the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) remained closed for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday after multiple landslides struck between Jakheni and Chenani in Udhampur district, leaving thousands of vehicles stranded along the route.

Restoration work is underway on an emergency basis, with heavy machinery and a large workforce deployed to clear debris and repair damaged portions.

Project Director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Shubham Yadav, said nearly 10 km of the stretch between Chenani and Udhampur has been extensively damaged. He assured that every effort is being made to restore connectivity at the earliest.

However, Traffic is plying on Mughal Road/SSG road as per advisory, Sinthan road is also open for LMVs as per NHIDCL.

Authorities of NHAI, have advised commuters to avoid travel on the highway until further notice. Vehicular movement remains suspended from both Jammu and Srinagar sides until the road is declared safe.
