Typhoon Kajiki caused severe damage in central Vietnam on Tuesday. At least three people and injuring ten others due to the disaster. Authorities warned of heavy rains that could lead to flooding and landslides.
The storm damaged nearly 7,000 homes and flooded close to 29,000 hectares of rice fields. More than 18,000 trees were uprooted, and over 300 electricity poles were brought down, causing extensive power outages.
Heavy rains on Tuesday morning severely flooded streets in the capital, Hanoi, disrupting traffic.
Kajiki made landfall on Vietnam’s north-central coast on Monday afternoon and weakened into a tropical depression as it moved into Laos on Tuesday morning.
Vietnam’s weather agency cautioned that rainfall will continue in northern regions, with some areas expecting up to 150 millimeters in six hours, increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides.
Before hitting Vietnam, Kajiki brushed past southern China’s Hainan Island on Sunday, prompting the closure of businesses and public transport in Sanya City.
