A sudden cloudburst struck Tharali tehsil in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand on 22 August, causing flash floods and debris flows that inundated several residences, shops, the tehsil complex, and the official residence of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.

At least two persons are missing and another is feared trapped under debris in Sagwara village. Several roads in the region, including approaches to Tharali and adjoining villages, remain blocked due to debris, severely hampering connectivity.

Responding swiftly, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) inducted a platoon strength team from its 8th Battalion based at Gochar. The contingent was mobilized at 08:30 hrs.

Upon arrival, ITBP personnel immediately launched relief and rescue operations, extending vital assistance to the affected villagers. Concurrently, a search operation is underway in Chepda village to trace a missing individual.

The ITBP continues to work in close coordination with the district administration, SDRF, and police authorities, providing all possible assistance in the rescue and relief efforts.
