Russian oil supplies to Hungary and Slovakia may be suspended for at least five days following a Ukrainian strike on a section of the Druzhba pipeline inside Russian territory.

In response, the Hungarian and Slovak governments have written to the European Commission, urging it to guarantee the security of oil deliveries from Russia.

Both countries—members of the European Union—have consistently opposed the bloc’s plan to phase out Russian oil and gas imports by the end of 2027, citing energy security concerns.

Meanwhile, Russia and Ukraine have intensified attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure in recent weeks, despite renewed diplomatic pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump to reach a resolution to the ongoing conflict.
