Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is set to hold a joint telephone call on Friday with his French, British, and German counterparts to discuss nuclear talks and sanctions.

The three European nations have warned they may trigger United Nations sanctions against Iran under the “snapback” mechanism if Tehran fails to return to the negotiating table regarding its nuclear programme.

France, the UK, Germany, and the United States allege that Iran’s nuclear activities could be aimed at developing weapons.

In 2018, the U.S. under then-President Donald Trump withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal, citing Tehran’s non-compliance. The U.S. has since accused Iran of pursuing nuclear weapons—an allegation Iran strongly denies.
